beer & depression in a cold, cold country

went to see a finnish film, "paha maa," at the ICA. when i went into the screening it was daytime; when i came out, it was dark, the leaves were falling, i was in london not in finland, and it took me a full hour to readjust to reality.

everyone in this cold & frosty "frozen land" is isolated emotionally, cut off from others and locked in a kind of personal tundra. each is a pig - and yet each is pitiable. each is a villain and a victim. each seeks refuge in a self-constructed cocoon, none realizing they all are connected in the web that is the modern world, and how easy it is to see, from our vantage point, how things come full circle.

liquor, addiction, despair, depression. no one thinks they should be held responsible for their actions, or for those of others. they think nothing of failing others, think nothing when others fail them.

bleak and black, yes, but hilarious at moments, too.
