mohammed and i went to see william forsythe's three atmospheric studies, a dance piece inspired by the war in iraq.
me: i don't know if you'll like it - it might be very avant-garde.
md: "avant-garde": i don't speak french.
me: well, it's probably very conceptual.
md: "conceptual" is my thing.

& then he tittered over the arabic - and over the parody (ma'am) of a U.S. soldier (ma'am) trying to explain his mission (ma'am) to an iraqi woman (ma'am).
