chamonix, unlike many other european ski resorts, is spread out along a valley that crawls from les bossons to le tour. my favorite end is the quieter argentiere section, away from the crowds and traffic. this photo was taken at le tour, a gentle mountain that one a powder day has some beautiful, easy off-piste runs.
waiting in line for a lift ticket, we struck up a conversation with an American who had been skiing there the day before. the sun was shining and there was nary a cloud in the sky.
"this is what we call 'bluebird skies' in my country," he said.
DUH! i wanted to say: "yeah, we call 'em 'bluebird skies' in my country, too, you bonehead, because we're from the same country!" sigh.
