the baltic seas off the north german coast would best be characterized, i think, as "bracing." i didn't dare go into the water, though m claims he went for a dip (and spotted two jellyfish). i marveled that there was nary an indication that this resort town, kuehlungsborn, was once east germany (and perhaps east germany's premier beachtown), but m explained that there was one noticeable difference: eastern germans like to go into the ocean buck nekkid, not just topless. and right on cue, a couple of men ran into the ocean without a stitch of clothing on. brrrr!
