apparently, marmite made only 300,000 or so of a special edition guinness-spiked marmite in these beautiful black-and-gunmetal grey bottles. so i went on a hunt for the guinness marmite.
sainbury's? nope.
tesco's? nope.
marks and sparks? nope.
waitrose? nope.
i was beginning to doubt it existed. i even dispatched the ladies in accounts, hilary and sue, to search the shelves in their outer london suburbs. nope nope nope. (though sue did bring back a handy microwave egg poacher for me from morrison's...)
"go online," one person said, trying to be helpful. "they're selling them on ebay" - for $25 a jar. blarmy!
my colleague jill stalked her local waitrose 'til they 'fessed up to having a secret stash in back. she was not willing to part with her jar for any price.
well, i *finally* found the blessed guinness marmite - at selfridge's glorious food hall (where you can also buy aunt jemima's syrup - but why would you?!) and i may just auction it off to the highest bidder if curiosity doesn't kill the cat that is the keeper of the marmite first.
