ok, so i go commando and i eat the strawberries without the cream, but strawberries in july truly is one of great pleasures of life in britain. i love that the containers come with the name and location of the farmer. one of these days i'm going to hunt down farmer figgis in kent to tell her/him how much i'm enjoying the berries.
i once made the mistake of buying cut-rate strawberries - imported from california! driscoll! a travesty.
before strawberries, it was asparagus season. i went asparagus-mad. my favorite way to prepare them is to lie them flat in a pan with a thumbful of water and a liberal sprinkling of sea salt, and to steam them gently for a few minutes. a dash of balsamic vinegar is nice, too.
it's amazing how delicious vegetables are sans chemicals, pesticides, genetic modification and all the other good stuff that makes our vegetables in the U.S. look so pretty yet taste so bad.

It is true, most things American look nice on the surface..but are suspiciously unpalatable inside. We had some yummy tomatoes from a roadside stand upstate however! Looking forward to farmer's market delights.
Pam says - never in my life have i had such amazing strawberries since my visit with you last july. i am ruined for life and never will a strawberry taste as delicious
