london mourning

london went from triumph to terror in 24 hours, from the joy and jibbing of the rosbifs' victory over the frogs, to sadness, confusion and horror.

it felt like sept. 11 all over again. and again, i spent the day cocooned in the bubble of the newsroom, and it wasn't until i walked home that i was able to think about a changed london. the pubs, normally packed to the rafters on thursday night, were quiet. it was drizzling, and everyone seemed lost in thought.

equally distressing news: reports that egypt's top envoy to baghdad was killed by his captors. two weeks ago, iraq rode high on promises of hope for its future - and pledges of solidarity from its neighbors, including egypt.

we all have to press ahead and to find a way to breach this division between religions and cultures, to try to understand what drives this kind of terrorism and how to end it.

now it's time for a glass of wine.

thank you to everyone who got in touch - it's hard to be so far from home at times like this, but i feel lucky to have such thoughful friends and family.
