guillem + khan

two of my favorite dancers - sylvie guillem and akram khan - came together for their first collaboration, sacred monsters. i wondered how a french ballerina moving into modern would mesh with a british choreographer schooled in kathak. the result: a highly personal duet in which they find common ground as iconoclasts in their own forms of classical dance - and beauty in their difference.

a quote from the time out interview:
‘Physically,’ she says, ‘we are completely different, and Akram is smaller than me. Next to him,’ Guillem laughs, ‘I am a tall asparagus waving in the breeze.’
