tequila y tortillas
in my neverending hunt to find good mexican food, green & red in bethnal green was next on the list.
verdict: muy, muy bueno! the margaritas - straight up - were perfect. and the tequila selection, as you can see behind hugo, is fantastic - lots of anejos and my favorite, gran centenario. the corn tortillas, despite being the smallest tortillas i've ever seen, were homemade, as were the tortilla chips - a rarity in london. my carnitas came crackling on a platter, pork rink sizzling to a crisp. karin & michael had the birria - slow-braised lamb shank in beer, cloves & ancho chilies that was falling-off-the-bone tender, kim & felipe had huge half moons of calabaza con lentejas and daniel had the pollo rostizado. the table was staggeringly covered with homemade salsas, refried beans, tortillas, guacamole.
four habanero chilies out of five.
